Forty Eight Hour Overcoat

The primer is the bond between the slab and the coating that follows, so the topcoat is planned around it. Recoat after 4 hours at 20°C, and apply the finishing coat within 48 hours maximum at 20°C. Prepare the floor correctly before priming; adhesion depends on it.

Zero Loss Penetration Cure

The resin is 100% solids, so nothing flashes off as solvent and everything applied stays in and on the floor. The material soaks into open concrete and cures within the top layer, consolidating it instead of bridging over it. A 220 micron wet film stays a 220 micron dry film.

Sealed Absorbency Coat

Absorbent concrete draws binder out of a finish coat, leaving uneven gloss and weak adhesion. One coat at 3-4m² per kg seals that absorbency, so the EverFlor finish that follows cures with even gloss and full adhesion. Apply by medium pile roller and cut in with a brush.

Rapid Two-Pack Cure

Mix base and hardener at 2.7:1 by weight and the film cures by chemical reaction, not by drying. It is touch dry in 2 hours, takes foot traffic after 4 hours and reaches full cure in 2 days at 20°C. Pot life is 30 minutes at 20°C, so mix only what you can lay in that window, and work between 5°C and 25°C because cold slows the cure.

Performance Profile

Two-Pack 100% Solids Epoxy. A rapid-cure penetrating primer for porous and absorbent concrete. It soaks into the substrate, cures in the pores and leaves a sealed grey base for the floor coating. One coat prepares the floor, and the short cure lets the topcoat follow on the same working day.

Product Details

Description

EverFlor Prime 4H is a rapid cure epoxy floor primer for porous and absorbent concrete. It is the fast-curing member of the EverFlor deep-penetrating primer family. It does the same job as Prime DP: it seals and stabilises the slab before coating. The difference is time. At 20°C you can overcoat after 4 hours, so priming and topcoating fit into one working day.

The primer is a two-pack epoxy. Once mixed, the resin wicks into the open pores of the concrete and cures there. It locks the surface together and closes the pores. The floor coating then sits on a sealed, uniform base instead of being drawn into the slab.

Prime 4H goes under compatible EverFlor floor coating systems. It is a primer, not a wearing surface. Apply one coat, then follow with the specified topcoat within the overcoat window.

Recommended areas of use

  • Porous concrete floors in warehouses, workshops and factories
  • Garage floors
  • Commercial and industrial floors before coating
  • Absorbent concrete that needs stabilising before a floor coating
  • Refurbishment projects where coating downtime must be kept short
  • Interior and exterior concrete

Features

  • Rapid cure: the floor accepts foot traffic and the next coat on the same day at 20°C, cutting downtime on time-critical jobs.
  • Deep penetrating: the resin enters the pores of absorbent concrete and cures within them, stabilising the surface.
  • Seals before coating: closed pores stop the topcoat soaking in unevenly, so it builds and cures as a consistent film.
  • Solids-only formulation: nothing evaporates from the film, so the material you apply is the material that stays on the floor.
  • Low VOC: under 30 g/l, so odour and emissions during application are kept low.
  • Single-coat primer: one coat prepares the floor on most porous concrete.
  • Grey colour: the primed area is easy to see, so missed patches show up before topcoating.
  • Interior and exterior use within the application temperature range.

Good to know

  • Preparation decides adhesion. Remove laitance, dust, grease and curing compounds, and mechanically key smooth or power-floated concrete.
  • Very porous areas absorb more primer than dense concrete. Allow extra material so these areas end up sealed.
  • Mixed material has a short working life. Mix only what you can apply straight away.
  • Cure speed depends on temperature. Cold substrates and air slow the cure; the stated times apply at 20°C.
  • Overcoat within the maximum overcoat window. Contact us before coating a primer that has passed it.
  • Prime 4H is not presented as a primer for oil-contaminated or damp concrete. Use Prime OT for previously oil-contaminated concrete and Prime DT for damp substrates. Where downtime is not a constraint, Prime DP serves the same role as Prime 4H.
Application

SURFACE PREPARATION

Prepare the floor correctly. Adhesion depends on it. The concrete must be clean, dry and sound.

Remove all dust, dirt, grease, laitance and curing compounds. Mechanically prepare smooth or power-floated concrete to open the surface and give a key. Vacuum the floor after preparation.

Apply between 5°C and 25°C.

MIXING

The mixing ratio is 2.7 : 1 by weight, Part A to Part B. Mix the full unit. If you split a unit, weigh both parts accurately.

Stir Part A first. Add all of Part B. Mix with a slow-speed mixer until fully uniform. Do not add thinners.

Pot life is 30 minutes at 20°C. Mix only what you can apply in that time. Warmer conditions shorten it.

APPLICATION

Cut in edges and corners with a brush. Roll the open floor with a medium pile roller. Work the primer well into the concrete.

Apply one coat. Porous areas absorb more material. Go back over them until the surface looks sealed, not dry and patchy.

DRYING AND OVERCOATING

At 20°C the primer is touch dry in 2 hours. It takes foot traffic and can be overcoated after 4 hours.

Apply the topcoat within 48 hours at 20°C. Full cure takes 2 days. Lower temperatures extend every one of these times.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

How soon can I apply the floor coating over Prime 4H?
At 20°C you can walk on the primer and overcoat it after 4 hours. It is touch dry after 2 hours, but wait for the full recoat time before topcoating. Apply the topcoat within 48 hours at 20°C. Lower temperatures slow the cure, so allow longer on cold floors.
How many coats do I need, and how far does a pack go?
Apply one coat. Coverage is 3-4m² per kg, so a 5kg unit primes roughly 15-20m². Highly porous concrete absorbs more primer than dense concrete. Allow extra material on those areas so the surface ends up sealed.
How should I prepare the floor?
The concrete must be clean, dry and sound. Remove laitance, dust, grease, curing compounds and any other contamination. Mechanically prepare smooth or power-floated concrete to give a key. Correct preparation is the main condition for good adhesion.
Can I use Prime 4H on damp or oil-contaminated concrete?
Prime 4H is intended for porous, absorbent concrete that has been correctly prepared. For damp substrates, use Prime DT. For concrete that has been contaminated with oil, use Prime OT after correct preparation.
Can I leave Prime 4H as the finished floor?
No. Prime 4H is a primer. Its job is to seal and stabilise the concrete so the floor coating bonds and cures evenly. Overcoat it with a compatible EverFlor floor coating within the overcoat window.
